The "File Transfer Calculator" item in the Special menu invokes a special dialog box that allows you to approximate the amount of time it will take to download a file from CompuServe using the B protocol or from GEnie with the YMODEM-g protocol.
To use the calculator, enter the size of the file to be downloaded in the text box labeled "File Size", select either the "Text" or "Binary" button to denote the type of file you want to download, and then press the "Calculate" button. The program will then display its estimate of the time required.
Note that this is only an estimate. The algorithm used is based on using a CompuServe node, and takes your current baud rate setting into consideration. Many factors can affect the speed of file transfers on CompuServe and GEnie, including (but not limited to) the transfer protocol used, network load, use of supplimental networks like TYMNET or TELENET, use of hard disks, and whether or not a disk cache is used. However, you should find that the estimates are reasonably close to your actual results.
